I’ve been dry herb vaping CBD nightly for around 3 years and I’ve found that it depends a LOT on the strain. Some have had no effect at all, while other strains can knock me on my ass.

The stains that don’t have much effect can still be good if the flavor it right because I’ll mix it in with other stains. I’ve gotten pretty good at being able to dose appropriately with a nice balance between flavor and effect.

For times when I’m looking for a bit ‘more’ of a hit, I’ll mix in some full strength THC bud too, but mostly I just stick with the CBD flower.

My current favorites are THERAPY from Fields of Hemp (though, it’s rare any more that they have it in stock), and OLYMPUS MONS from Holy City Farms.

What do you mean when you say it knocks you on your ass? Like you get high like thc, or you fall asleep

Both. Therapy gives me a very creative high and helps me fall asleep. Olympus Mons is more of a relaxing high. Both are less than a full THC high, but also none of the paranoia or anxiety that can come from full strength.

I like to refer to the CBD flower as ‘bud light’.

I always found thc to be too much of a commitment, so maybe I should try cbd flower instead. However, I don’t want to be put to sleep, have zero problem with that!

I wonder how much of it is to do with CBD compound percentages. If it’s CBN then it would make sense for it to knock you out

The Olympus Mons is 2:1 CBD to THC, and the THC is as close to the legal limit as possible. I spent my 20s constantly high, then stopped for about 10 years, and now I find the lower THC bud much more my speed, especially if I’m needing to interact with others.

I felt like it’s effects were less noticeable dry herb vaping than they were combusting. Dry herb vaping seems to leave behind a lot of the cannabinoids, which is what you’re going after with CBD flower.

Regardless of vaping or not, I’d recommend CBG flower over CBD. CBG flower has been decarbed in the same way you decarb weed to make edibles, and the CBD effects are more significant than regular CBD flower.

Once I got a medical card I started dry herb vaping full spectrum medical bud. But as a testament to how many cannabinoids are leftover after vaping, I make edibles from my already vaped bud (AVB). Despite being fully vaped, the AVB still has enough cannabinoids to make potent CBD edibles.

In contast, there is still THC leftover from vaping as well, but to a much less significant degree. So the AVB edibles are more of a relaxing, anti-inflammatory body high rather than intoxicating cognitive high. That makes me think that dry herb vaping is not very effective at extracting anywhere near all of the cannabinoids from the bud, if my edibles are that strong in CBD but lacking significantly in THC effects.

I prefer dry herb vaping for health reasons, but I seriously felt like dry herb vaping the CBD/CBG flower was just really less effective than combusting it…

There’s another one out there that shows the Temps of the bad stuff to, i.e. benzene but I haven’t been able to find it.

With CBD, think about what you don’t feel rather than what you do feel. Is there less anxiety, restlessness, insomnia, discomfort? I believe CBG makes everything better- nice addition to CBD or THC- and on is own it’s great for migraines. CBD and CBG are different cannabinoids. When you vape THCa, some of what’s left is CBN and that’s what makes you sleepy.

Can I ask how you make edibles from the AVB? I tried once and it tasted pretty vile… though had a strong effect, couldn’t bear to eat more than one piece.

I do a water bath with a few rinses to make the carbon taste go away and mix it with coconut oil or butter in a crock pot set on warm for 8 to 10 hours, mixing occasionally. Really just eyeball it with the oil level until it’s like a millimeter higher than the AVB in the crock pot. At the end, we strain it thru a cheese cloth.

A lot of people do a sealed jar inside a crock pot or a boiling pot of water, but that sketches me out… The simple crock pot method works great and makes potent oil.

Thanks, I’ve saved your comment. Unfortunately I threw away a large jar of AVB just last week!

I 100% agree about doing a sealed jar in a crock pot, that’s fucking insanity and pretty much a bomb.

            No problem!

And yeah that’s my fear too… Just imagine the jar exploding and sending molten oil everywhere like napalm…

So for anyone wondering, you don’t fully seal the jar and make sure the jar is upright.

The jar is a vessel and the water warms it, not different than a boiling crockpot, just cleaner.

And you also realize you have to boil jars to can them? They’re meant for pressure… where does the risk of explosion come from?

If you look up AVB recipes (especially on reddit) you will come across a bunch talking about putting the AVB and oil in a fully sealed jar and either roaring boiling it for a long time or putting it in a pressure cooker.

The slow cooker is just so much simpler and easier, and it’s still very effective.

Edit: And suggestions of soft boiling vape parts in milk to clean/reclaim them…

Yeah that’s because they aren’t doing it properly.

You don’t seal the jar and a pressure cooks puts pressure on the outside…. Not inside….

A slow cooker with a mason jar in it leaves a clean crockpot for cooking instead of needing two. The jar is JUST a vessel.

I’ve looked up guides, I’ve done this dozens of times. Even a full sealed jar is designed and meant to be used under pressure…. Canning requires pressure FFS dude.

How is cleaning a full crockpot easier than just a mason jar….?
