It definitely is a good alternative for the original Instagram idea (a place for photographers to share their pictures) before Meta bought Insta and turned it into Facebook 2.0.
I agree that the all section with default active sorting feels a little to Reddit/Twitter. Things get already much better with sorting by hot or top.
One thing I wonder is, if people actually know how to use Lemmy subscriptions. Reddit used a algorithm to customize your frontpage and Lemmy doesn’t have that. There is one single video on lemmy.world/c/videos with over 1k upvotes while the rest has only between 15 - 30. The difference? That one video ended up in the all section and enough people commented in it.
My local instance feed is pretty good and has almost no Reddit or Twitter stuff in it. Same goes for my subscription feed.
Not OP but probably because it let’s us all communicate with each other. I can watch und discuss stuff from Kbin and even had a couple of Mastodon users commenting in one of my threads. It doesn’t look you on a platform, everything is more or less cross platform.
I think Karma was responsible for people always trying to make a witty comment and made them way to attached to their account. I don’t think that it’s a healthy system an can live good without it.
Last month, construction workers did something in our street. I didn’t have Landline Internet for a whole week. Always Online is pretty horrible for single player games.
