Okay, finally I am confident that I got them all!
Here’s what I did
First, I got a torrent client set up, and went to
https://academictorrents.com/details/c398a571976c78d346c325bd75c47b82edf6124e/tech&filelist=1
It turns out that you can just download individual subs from the torrent instead of the whole thing. I know exactly which ones I first commented on, it was a small list and the subs themselves were pretty small too at the time. So downloading just those subs from the torrent was pretty speedy and easy.
After that I came up with a quick script (based on the example scripts by the pushshift team’s github) at https://github.com/Watchful1/PushshiftDumps to parse and find my comments and spit out the comment ids into a text file.
Next, I modifed the super useful script at https://github.com/luphoria/reddit-migration one last time to accept a list of comment ids in a text file (instead of asking reddit for them), and then had it overwrite them all.
Looks like I won’t be needing that GDPR archive after all, thanks for nuttin reddit!!

Waiting for one sub to go public so I can finish erasing my content, then I can delete knowing I didn’t leave a single thing behind.
Edit: Here are the patches btw.
For reddit-migration: https://kbin.social/m/DataDumps/t/65055/reddit-migration-patch
And for the pushshift scripts: https://kbin.social/m/DataDumps/t/65054/pushdump-patch
Aaaaand they’re restored. They’re all restored.
I just did a quick spot check. None of mine have come back (yet). That said, reddit did decide out of the blue to permaban me for no clear reason - so likely they didn’t want any of my stuff to begin with. YMMV.
One sub went dark before I could overwrite everything from there. Trying to decide if I should wait for them to come back and finish the wipe or if I should just bite the bullet and delete now. Could use your advice here.
I’d recommend retaining access to your account for now. I deleted mine and now have no recourse to go back and re-delete the comments they restored.
I wonder, does a GDPR/CCPA request do the job? If you need to wipe content after your account is deleted.
I submitted one under CCPA last week and haven’t gotten a response yet. :-/
Have a timeline tracker thread up now, https://kbin.social/m/RedditMigration/t/50981/Reddit-Data-Retrieval-Request-timeline-thread
Unfortunately, not one person who posted there has gotten a reponsse yet either.
That’s for getting a copy of your data, not a request for deleting your data. I did receive both data requests for my former accounts within a few days.
Hmm… when did you do this and what was the exact timeline? I heard someone else who did it April 30 of this year got it in four hours. Maybe it was because of the timing.
Everyone who’s trying to get their data now seems to be waiting a lot longer.
Also wondering if we should be starting a separate timeline tracker for GDPR/CCPA deletion requests.
I don’t remember the exact dates unfortunately. The first account was probably the day of the AMA and I received the download within a few days (Monday?).
The second account was longer, I requested it maybe a day or two after the AMA and didn’t receive it until today. I think they’re getting a lot of them now.
