2·25 days agoRecent changes in Michigan extended it from 1 day to over a week, joining several other states offering early voting options.
“The early voting period begins the second Saturday prior to Election Day and ends the Sunday before an election. However, communities may decide to provide additional days of early voting. Under state law, communities can offer up to 29 days of early voting.”

It’s not just about emotional states, which we can observe the behavioral states of but don’t know what it is like to experience as other animals. It’s about experience and consciousness which I think speaks to the underlying question of when other animals experience an emotional state if we can relate it to our own phenomenology for similar appearing states.

6·2 months agoWhat behaviors of Larry Ellison is it going to help change? Hoarding wealth to the detriment of society? Attacking the tech sector with their army of lawyers? AI monitoring billionaires sounds strange, but I’m willing to see how it goes.
Sounds like too many landlords, not too many immigrants.
I use an alarm captcha, simple math problems so I can’t accidentally dismiss the alarm instead of snooze. I also keep a similar sleep schedule throughout the week so I’m sometimes already awake a little before the alarm and I have an alarm to remind me when to go to bed.
We judge others more harshly than ourselves or our friends and family, it’s often a tribal artifact of the environment our species grew up and evolved in through its infancy that has in part informed our acceptable behaviors as a social species who relies on groups for survival (justice, altruism, fairness, social contract, etc).
Sometimes it’s hyperbole, sometimes it’s incorrectly treating people different than ourselves as less than instead of different to, and sometimes someone violates common morality so abjectly that capital punishment is a popular acceptable outcome.
This assumes all of the data fed into the model is accurate and not including noise like misinformation
Similar to your experience, I’ve seen several large governments and organizations mishandle or mismanage user data by accident or on purpose many times with little or no recompense. If nobody can do it right they should either make it all publicly transparent for everyone or not store it at all.
Misinformation, not using accounts or accounts with incorrect information, multiple accounts, etc counter ops seem prudent at this point as the information system and monitoring apparatus of some of the most powerful governments and corporations in human history remains largely unchecked.
Privacy is an important right to protect and value because of the damage that can and will be done when groups hold personal information (financial, medical, behavior patterns, etc) and either sell it without explicit consent or leak it because they have no expectation of risk or loss if they don’t protect it.
Tl;Dr The oldest rules of the Internet are don’t believe everything you read and don’t dox yourself.

5·2 months agoI’ve used Dia for years, great simple tool for diagramming & if I need something more I’ll switch to graphviz dot files
If you’re in Michigan the secretary of state website has a registration check and sample ballots but other sites have sample ballots too. That allows time to look into candidates, review voting history, maybe watch an interview or two, before going to vote.

NOAA sources are usually good in the US, weather.gov for a quick map and search by zip code or city, but they follow the same % system mentioned as most do
The couple apps/widgets I’ve tried haven’t been good for working with VPN unless I want to know the weather halfway around the world.
