The people saying it uses your phone’s Internet connection are incorrect. The vehicles have built in cellular modems and connect directly. The OEMs negotiate cellular contracts to provide service in their vehicles with ATT, Verizon, etc.

Features like remote locking/unlocking, etc. would not work if it relied on being connected to a phone.

I share space with pedestrians every day on multi use paths. I think bikes and pedestrians are perfectly compatible.

It’s really just the cars that don’t seem compatible with anything else…

It acts similar to a VPN connection and is able to block network requests to tracking sites/APIs.

I didn’t say they were right, but I can imagine that’s why a lot of them put that.

There’s a local bar near me that was trying to get a zoning variance to replace their surface parking lot with outdoor seating and a bunch of people who lived nearby showed up to complain about “noise”. It’s pretty ridiculous we require parking for a bar at all to be honest.

Probably people don’t want to live near a bar because of the other side effects, like drunken people and noise issues. But yeah walk it transit to the bar is the way

It’s pretty barebones. It has automatic uploads but only from the camera folder. It does have the ability to share links, but no folder or album support for sharing. No face tagging or object recognition that Google does

Am I the only one who has a distrust of pirating video games? Watching a movie is one thing but a video game is actual code running on your computer downloaded from an untrusted source.

I setup my own pixelfed instance to share pictures of my kids and family. I own and control all the data on my server and no one gets to monetize pictures of my children.

Not many of my family members are on there but I still prefer it to Instagram

I ride a lot in my city and thunderstorms can happen several times a week where I live during certain parts of the year. Usually I can plan around them and if it’s really so stormy I don’t think I can bike then it’s usually better if I don’t drive anywhere either.

The main one that gets me is when I pick up my kid from school. Just rain and I’ll bike but if there’s lightning I occasionally need to take the car for safety.

I want one. It’s a lot easier for me to start up a gaming session on the couch with a handheld without much fuss than on my computer at my desk. There are a lot of games I’d play more this way.
