I use the site daily. Being able to download FREE CAD models in one click, nominal dimensions for nearly everything, and linked compatible components makes design so much simpler. I can swap a screw out in my assemblies in seconds. Other online hardware catalogs just don’t compare. It’s the perfect first draft resource.

Oh yeah I think it was a translation issue. Translators have trouble with conjugation and synonyms. But the result is the same.

I think that’s grammatically true but i tend to think of it more in terms of colloquialisms or slang. I imagine intransitive use of the verb developed out of convenience for lack of a lazy alternative. “I can’t prepare food” would either suggest you require assistance to eat, you can’t legally work at a restaurant, or your aristocratic status is beyond that of a mere peasant who has seen a kitchen before.

I mean that’s true of the english term as well. But if someone says they can’t cook i default to thinking they order out every meal or use a microwave fot cup of ramen. Making sandwiches, salads, and other cold foods is still a skill but there’s no word such as cold-cutlerist and i refuse andwich artist.

The specific language you speak has significant impact here. For some, "to make food* is used to refer to cooking. Where as in English it’s not so clear. I prefer the use in terms of survival. IMO, if you can make any food enough to survive you can cook, because in English there is not a better colloquial verb. Though i wouldn’t call you ‘a cook’ or ‘a chef’ if you can’t apply heat to produce edible food from raw.

You can still use cash. It’s just for electronic payments and ID verification. Though cash is exceedingly rare.

A unified ID system just means you use the same login details for each government agency (tax office, dmv, healthcare, etc…) Instead of a different system for each. It’s also a stand in for a physical signature. It also ensures your data is consistent through the entire government as it’s the same database.

I think it’s significantly more secure for the individual than in the US and, as far as tracking, it’s not like the US’ insecure identity verification systems make it more difficult to track you. The US makes it easier for others to steal you’re identity, and for you to get screwed because an employee misread your name on a net form they have to manually copy into their cobal database or whatever.

It’s not really. Much better then US’ lack of any one consistent system (or even lack of electronic option) and random OTP generators. But makes switching phone OS feel like a pretty big risk.

You can use a keychain OTP generator (in Norway). I have no clue how it generates verifiable codes. The phone app is more convenient, and to the point at hand, actually connected to the internet/NFC. In any case it’s factor 1 in a 2FA (And then some), so the same way any 2FA would work.

Actually the liquor is quite high quality, almost certainly better in general. My favorites are Irish and Scottish. But i don’t drink much liquor for safety reasons.

Norway has excellent pilsners and ciders. Ireland has a good brewery in dingle (i think) can’t remember name, was in Gaelic. The Finns have mastered the seltzer.

I think the micro brew culture in the US, PNW specifically, just beats the selection available in any one particular region i’ve visited in EU. I’m sure in aggregate EU has a larger selection. I mean, i haven’t been to Germany yet so…

But for example, it’s common to find only 1-2 smaller breweries on tap where I’ve been in EU, but in US it’s common to have several micro brews in any restaurant. Larger breweries are often mid anywhere you go in the world.

Netherlands, Ireland, and denmark on par for restaurants and bar pricing. Good sourcing is ubiquitously higher quality. Norway expensive restaurants and bars. In general US has better small/micro-breweries.

In EU, women don’t seem as wary of being alone in public or in the presence of masc presenting people. People seem to care less how others present themselves(they’re not offended by eccentric styles). I feel safer in general. America has a bunch of creeps who care that your shirt is pink or your hair is too long for a good Christian.

Healthcare exists. That’s $3k-$10k+ you don’t have to worry about every year.

Public transit exists. Like good public transit. The best systems in the US are garbage in comparison with the exception maybe of NYC. Though US public transit tends to be cheaper.

Can’t speak for Mediterranean or eastern Europe.

Covid was a time when many people had their eyes opened to big tech not having good intentions. I wouldn’t be surprised if covid did make a difference. It was a free option and people often had extra time on their hands to tinker. Lots of people changed jobs after as well. None of those mean there would have been a spike necessarily, but may contribute to an increase in adoption rate.

I started getting the odd server side injected ads. Refreshing the page usually works to skip it.

Syncthing has worked well for me between 3 devices(Linux, android, windows). I’ve had one conflict in 6mo and it was easy to identify the right copy to select in keepass’ prompt since the more recent one was a larger file.

Synchthing also provides optional version control which makes backing up easy.

Were already seeing a drop in product quality and reliability. Just try a search engine for practically anything. Chances are you already type “wiki” or “reddit” or “Lemmy” or whatever along with your search terms. AI(LLM) is just advanced cargo cult development. It won’t translate to physical design even though that’s being pushed by management level and marketing. Products will stop being useful altogether.

That’s on top of the tailoring to business and wealthy class as others have argued here. But even that will have to endure enshitification. Ultimately the wealthy will pay for labor on their toys(they already do, we just can’t afford those).

I like the Sawyer since it’s carefree in terms of water source. Takes some maintenance though, just follow instructions. I started with the mini but suggest the standard if you can afford it.

Yes, 100%. If company is awful enough to the creator then I’d even be ethically in agreement without purchase but just donate direct to creator or whatever. Though risk varies more with legality in the latter case.
