I’m already using libre office all the time - but aside from gaming I heard that office is the only reason to still use windows. But I just need any document editor - not ms office - so that’s a no brainer for me But for some people at work when MS documents are sent via email and edited - then sometim3s it just doesn’t cut it.

I immediately shrunk my windows on dual boot and will likely uninstall it completely in near future. No need for bloated windows anymore

Even if we use an algorithm to make the decision, the execution needs trust and cooperation from society and industry etc. This is a real big thing and democratic voting partially legitimises the chosen actions so that people are willing to cooperate. This isn’t trivial when a computer does this.
I really don’t think, that resource allocation is the root cause problem here.
I think resource allocation fails primarily due to either authoritarian political systems with their psychological bias or democratic systems where neither voters nor politicians make an sustained effort to be scientifically calibrated and instead aim for popularity and people pleasing. IMO this is why democracies fail to achieve the best outcomes. As a consequence, resources as not well allocated.

Also, it’s not like people can just stop using cars, planes and energy and co. We also need the corresponding societal transformation to become less and less co2-intensive (plus all the other hazards like pollution etc.). This isn’t at all fixable by consumer market choices. this needs political planning, regulations, etc. But to avoid that, auch fossile fuel companies have been actively and massively putting misinformation and propaganda into the public to distract from such effective (and profit reducing) actions.
