  • The thing people need to remind themselves is that - it’s subjective. You don’t really know how good a product is, unless it’s in your hands or you’ve got hands-on experience. It sucks, because we can’t demo everything and it forces us to sometimes take financial risks.

It just comes down to what you’re looking for out of a product. Is it X-free from Y chemicals? Does it meet a specific standard you’re looking for?

What pisses me off with reviews sometimes is how vague and scarce a review can be. Most of the time it’s people just going “It works! Thanks!” or “It sucks. Don’t buy!”. Like, I can’t evaluate a product on that alone, I need a little more to work with. And a lot of the time too is that people will just complain in a review of something that isn’t even about the product like “it didn’t arrive on time…0 stars”. How is that relevant to the product? Sounds more like a problem with the shipping service, two different things.

You don’t need to always write reviews spanning 10 paragraphs. But christ, just write more than “it sucks, don’t buy”. Why does it suck? What makes it suck? Come on, details.

  • I used to once believe, that a lot of what is on the internet lasts forever. It was a little naive to think, because over the course of my time online, I’ve seen things that I thought would last, ended up not lasting.

I would sometimes cross-search old usernames of mine because I do get around online. I can only now see my past accounts that I’ve made at least 5 years ago. Only 2 accounts that I recall, are 10+ years old when it used to be a bit more. It tells me that things will shut down eventually and it’ll take down many accounts with it.

Unless you are on platforms hosted by Google or Microsoft by using their services, it’s going to last for a long time because they’re a little too big to just simply vanish overnight.

Your best option is to just back up what you can and if you remember to before you die, make arrangements for preservation purposes with instructions to those you’d want in on it.

  • You know, people keep asking what America is going to be like 10, 20 or even 50 years from now.

I’m going to tell you that we’ll have some of the most spottiest blotches of our history. It’ll be rooted from the times and events where extremely aggressive opposers to generally anything intellectual have gone on crusades to undermine anything they think is a huge problem, like scientists.

This will be our Burning of the Library of Alexandria. We’ll just have inconclusive data to our researches because of politically charged people.

  • And it is something he has spent 4 years trying to do. We’ve seen him cycle through so many people in his administration, that is Trump’s we’re talking here. He’d bring this guy in, he’d last 2 months, then he’d leave. Some people he acquired, lasted just a week and few a day.

It’s because he was wheeling around to find the loyalists he needed that won’t challenge him or feels that they aren’t up to snuff with his requirements. That’s a dangerous precedent to be functioning under as a president. Normally, presidents stick to who they have because they’ve picked carefully and they pick bright minds in the right places. Not a lot of presidents had a lot of great people, but they can say that they were far, far more qualified than anyone Trump has personally assigned.

Even George W. Bush’s administration was better than Trump’s.

But yeah, the 4 years with Trump, will exactly be repeated here in Project 2025. Except, far worse than ever and it’ll all be unchallenged. This isn’t even about trying to play into people’s fears. The 4 years with Trump, he turned this country into his playground. If we have 4 more years of him, he’s going to turn it into his amusement park.

And no I don’t want to hear arguments from people going like “well, it’s only 4 years of him and once it’s over, he can’t run again!”. How the fuck would you know? Has anyone not, by now, seen how he behaves towards laws and rules? He acts like none of those exist to him but exist for others. If impeaching the bastard twice didn’t do anything, do you think he’s going to abide by term limit rules? He might just override that and make himself dictator for the rest of his life.

  • Curious, I checked out Chris Dodd and wonder what he’s up to. He’s a close advisor now to Biden so I’d imagine he’s whispering in Biden’s ear and whoever will listen, about how much of piracy is ‘bad for ya’. In case anyone forgot, Chris Dodd was a major asshole during his 6 year stint (2011 - 2017) with MPAA and he ultimately failed in stopping piracy.

I don’t think this latest tactic will work. Congress couldn’t even understand Facebook and they couldn’t even hold Mark Zuckerberg of all people, accountable for his shit. Congress, MPAA and all the forces in the world couldn’t stop Kim Dotcom. MPAA, ACE and whatever, still cannot shut down The Pirate Bay.

They’ll just keep bashing their heads on the brick wall. The only victories they’ve gotten in all of the 20+ year decade war on piracy, is that most times, the sites go down because of lack of funding and support. They only take down big sites because they’ve found weak links or they’ve found those run-a-mouth pirates who’ve gotta go around talking shit about pirating to the point where they’re a liability then wonder why their favorite service/site is shut down.

  • Riiiiiight, Linux community is friendlier. I wouldn’t really call them that, though some aspects are. My problem still with the entirety of the Linux community that will always put me off about Linux and rather tolerate Windows more is the elitism. I have used Linux OSes before, I have my fair share of favorites and I see Linux as a go-to whenever I pick up computers too old to bother with Windows 10 and 11 and I just simply want a bare basics machine.

But I cannot in full faith, use Linux as my primary OS. I’ve tried. I can’t do it. There are simply things on Windows that I need and want to use that’ll simply just run and that’s what I want the most is for things to just run. It isn’t because I’m too dumb to use a Linux OS. It’s because I don’t have the patience or time to be weeding through forum posts, deciphering depositories and repositories, figuring out what obscure and vague message the terminal sends me and spending time on Google.

Besides this whole chart doesn’t make a load of sense. Like the whole “you’ll own what you buy”? What does that have to do with D&D and Pathfinder? I don’t get it.
