I use aliases on my own domain. For example, for lemmy I might use lemmy@mydomain.com or for my bank i use mybanksname@mydomain.com. Everything goes to the same inbox. There have been a couple times with job applications where I’ve had to reply and then they find out I’m not really indeed@mydomain.com but I guess I could set that account up if I feel the need.

I found out about linux in 2001 while using mIRC on Windows 98 and telling someone about all the crashes and BSOD I was getting. They recommended I try linux. Someone offered to burn Mandrake 8.0 cd’s and mail them to me. I used it for about 2 years before I first started distro hopping.

I don’t know if it will happen in the next century, but we definitely should focus on moon and Mars colonies before thinking about leaving the solar system. I’m 48 and would love if we had a moon colony in my lifetime. At the very least some station where astronauts have an extended stay like they do on ISS.

gnome on postmarketOS works well on my pinetab. There’s been a lot of improvements for gnome mobile in the past year. I’m not sure about getting postmarketOS on your device. There might be something or you could try Alpine. Maybe any other distro with gnome, but i think pmOS has specific packages with the latest improvements for gnome mobile.

I was degoogled until late last year. Then 2 things happened. 1, I got a Fitbit watch, and 2, I started a delivery gig job where I needed play store and google services. Fortunately I might be getting another job soon (got a conditional job offer yesterday) and quitting the delivery since I’m making less money now. Also, looking at getting a different watch. When these things happen, I’ll probably reinstall LineageOS without play services and delete the fitbit account (which is soon going to require switching to a google account.)

I have hosted email and nextcloud that I use for storage, calendar, etc. I’ve lived without google before with no inconvenience and I can do it again.

I think they meant they pay a provider to host it for them. For example, I have my own domain and email is hosted on mxroute.com. There haven’t been any issues that I’m aware of with people receiving my emails.

I use nextcloud for calendar (among other things). I made an account for my wife on the nextcloud and we share a “Family” calendar on there. It’s also possible to share publicly with anybody, but they can’t create or edit without an account. Of course, it’s more work to set up. There are also alternatives like zoho, etc which might be easier to get started with, but I haven’t really tried any of them in years. I don’t know how many people you share with, but if it’s not too many, there might be options. I don’t have to host my own nextcloud. I have mail service with my personal domain through mxroute.com and it includes Nextcloud.

I agree. I use it mostly for music, but there are many other ways to find music. I’ve been listening to a lot of internet radio lately. I’ve occasionally watched howto videos, but for most things I prefer to read instructions for something, with a photo if necessary.

also, you now are required to log in to view twitter. I don’t care that much, but sometimes people would link to tweets and now I won’t be able to view them when they do.
