I could imagine MIT might be interesting for Software released by public institutions, that are meant to be used by the industry in any way they want. Sometimes earning money with your product might even be impossible due to restrictions. So, not really Software released with the FOSS philosophy.
Otherwise I also never really understood why anyone would use the MIT license.

Yeah, I have a similar experience. I used a bunch of operating systems in my years. From C64 GEOS over Atari TOS Amiga OS, DOS, Windows (pretty much all of them since 3.1, except Vista and 8), Android, MacOS and iOS to Linux (several distros)
I don’t know why, but MacOS and iOS are for me just the worst user experiences. I feel completly trapped and helpless when using either one. Guess they are just not for me.

4.3 gb for source code only seems like a lot though, doesn’t it? (I am just a data scientist/civil engineer/hydrologolist though, no software developer, so I might be wrong I guess).
The 3 extra people is a valid reason to not want the smaller truck. Still wouldn’t need to be so monstrous.
How are they quality wise? I normally use my computers for a rather long time.
I’d say here in Germany it is mostly a unpopularity contest.
