Tbh the homophobia was just the last straw on the hill of crypto nonsense they piled on the browser over the years. I’ve been increasingly uncomfortable with Brave the more “fluff” they added, so going back to bare Ungoogled Chromium has been pretty good.

it was a similar article that made me switch from Brave to Ungoogled Chromium a few weeks ago, as a backup browser for the handful of sites that don’t work in Firefox.

Yeah, I grew up in neighbouring Hungary, and I remember the Kosovo war was often mentioned at the time by the adults around me, but as a child it felt like a world away, so alien from the peaceful society I grew up in :(

It really struck me, while reading this article, how strongly it still affects the people living there. But of course it makes sense, it was only 25-30 years ago, barely a generation.

Not that advanced, but two things I found useful:

• If you’re in a country that blocks torrent websites but not trackers (eg. UK), visit the sites via Tor browser.
• Rutracker.org and Rutracker.ru are surprisingly not blocked in the UK and have lots of good software. They’re BBCode-style forums, so fairly obvious how to navigate/search them even if you don’t speak Russian. If you want to read the description or comments of a specific torrent, pop the page into google translate.
