It would also mean that you can’t use extension that modify the page, not only affects ad blocks but things like blocking Facebook “like” buttons or Google trackers. Right now we need more people to use non-chromium browsers, like Firefox, so hopefully Chrome looses market share and with it Google starts loosing control over the internet.
I think he is talking about the 70% of the world that uses Chrome/Chromium based browsers
This is the result of the world blindly using Chrome and other Chromium based browsers. Now with effectively full control over the browser that more than 90% of the world uses Google can force its will on the internet
This is the one I’m thinking of switching to
I chose sh.itjust.works but since then I’ve realized that it would be better to support instances that are local to me so I think I’ll move to an Australian instance. Supporting local instances might help with regional growth
I bought a Hyundai Kona Electric at the start of the year and couldn’t be happier
People’s resistance to change is quite strong, even if they have good reason to leave and lemmy/fediverse are great alternatives the fact is that in terms of UX lemmy can be quite different and takes some time to find and rebuild a list of communities to join, specially since you can have the same community on different servers (i.e. technology on beehaw vs technology on lemmy.world) and just this fact means a learning curve for people that for the most part don’t like change.
Australian here. I see in America a similar pattern than what happens here, one party (conservative) receives a functioning government and proceeds to fuck things up with absurd policies while at the same time immediately claiming credit for the state of the country as soon as they get into power. Takes years to change the momentum of a country and by the time a new party is elected the country is almost bottoming out at which point the new (left leaning) party spends most of their first term fixing things up only to get blamed at the next election for being in power when things turned to shit. The electorate will never understand that a new government needs years to undo the fuck ups of the likes of the GOP. This time the Dems haven’t had enough time to fix up all the stupid shit the GOP did last time so I expect these next 4 years the country to hit rock bottom while the GOP is still in power and it will sadly be a moment of “Americans got what they voted for”
