  • In 2018 I got my employer to get me a a 40” 4k says monitor. It was great to work with, and I can’t find anything like it any more. Using even an expensive TV as a monitor doesn’t work, not because of ads, but because the pixels aren’t right for up close viewing, there are gaps between pixels that make lines look dotted and text unreadable.

Seems I can’t find a normal aspect ratio monitor over 27”, or an ultra wide over 32”. Where can we find large formats that are actual monitors these days?

  • Number 1) find the fuse that controls the modem and pull it. Without this your car can only report when the service techs hook it up to their diagnostics, and what is reported there versus what reports on the regular from the modem is a huge difference. You lose a lot of convenience this way, but that’s to be expected. CarPlay and auto give you a lot of that convenience back, but now you’re giving a lot of that same data to Apple and Google, even if all you think you’re doing is projecting maps from your phone to your infotainment. Do you trust them? You can use Bluetooth audio in most cars without using CarPlay or auto, that should be safe. Stick to maps on your phone if you don’t want Google or Apple getting your driving data.

  • Getting a job is a multi stage battle. Options 1, 2, and 3.5 won’t get you past the first stage, the inept HR screener. Doesn’t matter if it’s an entry level job, your resume looks worse to them than anyone with any professional experience. Option 3 kinda works for it, but even better would be an internship or two. That looks like real experience to the HR monkeys. Once you slay them, now you’re to the manager resume screen. This is where options 1 and 2, and maybe 3.5 can help. Score an interview with them, then it’s up to your shining personality to get you the rest of the way.

Every job in the industry has hundreds of applicants these days. It’s no longer enough that your resume meets the requirements, it’s got to actually compete. Since most jobs allow remote these days, it’s got to compete on a national or even international scale. Apply to on-site or hybrid roles to limit the market of competition. Make sure your resume screams that you’re better than the rest.

    Good luck!

  • That it’s just like subversion but distributed. Both of those assumptions are wrong. It uses a lot of the same terminology as subversion, but most of the terms are conceptually different in sometimes major ways. It’s not really distributed unless you go out of your way to make it so. Most implementations use a single remote to sync back to on a regular basis. It is, however, really good about keeping changes in sequence locally until it can sync, something you can’t really do in subversion.

  • Rainbows is happening downtown next weekend. The art museum is pretty good IMO, so is the musical instrument museum. If you’re able to eat at ChinoBandido get yourself some Chinese Mexican food, highly recommend the Jade red chicken, Machaca in a quesadilla, and some pork fried rice. Take a hike, Piestewa peak is mid difficult, camelback echo canyon is pretty tough. Mill Ave for college night life. Medieval times for a fun dinner theater. Tempe beach park is a nice stroll or biking area.

Have fun in the self driving cabs, get the Waymo app while you’re here. They only work in central Phoenix.
