Yeah, this is something many climate advocates say - that it is better to keep the car you have - but I don’t think this is backed up by data at all. It’s very clear that that EVs are able to save more carbon emissions than in a fairly short period than you would save by not continuing to drive an ICE vehicle, with manufacturing included.
If we were going to have a simple rule, replacing all ICE vehicles today with EVs will be far better for the climate than keeping them.
Meh, maybe 10% of a single generation at most know how to use computers. Technically savvy millenials vastly overestimate how technically savvy other millenials are.
Phone apps are absolutely not a substitute for eink screens. The reading experience is worlds apart. Support an alternative company like Kobo.
There are probably a couple mechanisms:
Reduced viability of hyper local services. People drive a longer distance to a central location more than the shorter distance.
Less self-optimization of work-home proximity. People are more likely willing to work further away.
Both can be argued as both a good and bad thing.
Its immensely difficult to convince your circle to download yet another app to message a handful of people. It is much easier to convince them to replace their SMS app.
This attitude results in the app never gaining any traction and losing what traction it had.
There is the doomerism timeline. “Well, it’s too late now, no reason to change anything now!”.
Doomerism is just an evolution of binary thinking.
