I don’t get the Gnome desktop. The vanilla one is unusable without adding a ton of extensions. But I do appreciate the simplicity in the settings.
I love KDE in the way that it keeps the traditional desktop paradigm that we’re all used to, but their configs are way too complex. There’s too much in one place.
In fact I’ve been thinking of trying out LXQT for simplicity’s sake.
Debian is great. The Ubuntus just add a few quality of life features that make it slightly better in my opinion.

I’m not sure I understand that part. Is Canonical implementing the patches instead of the open source project/package developers? I’m confused.
Then do with Ubuntu or its variants. Kubuntu, Xubuntu, etc.
I can’t stand Gnome 3. That’s why I go with Kubuntu.

I’m all for an Idaho stop at a stop sign if and only if there is no other traffic. Otherwise they should respect priority.
Why not just use a swap file instead of a partition?
I haven’t used RPM based distros a lot so I can’t remember off the top of my head. But I believe there are commands to play around with the yum cache and browse not only the list of packages but also which versions are available.
That’s not what OP was asking for though. And I don’t understand why the Linux user community on Lemmy pushes immutable distros so hard.

It’s too bad they didn’t mention Bottles. That’s a great tool for using Windows apps in Linux, including games.
Especially games outside of Steam or other platforms. Like if you have the CD or the independent installer files.

Remember that racial segregation in the US wasn’t that long ago, historically speaking.
Some of children who lived through that era were raised with racism and these values were passed to their children who became Gen X and Y.
Religion also had a bigger influence in the previous generations. Homophobia and transphobia was normalized and you could even be arrested for being any of LGBTQ up until very recently and it’s still the case in some regions.
Nazi ideology never really left either. And the way this ideology came to be was through disenfranchised people who were angry and needed someone to be angry against. Someone came at the right place at the right time and gave these people a scapegoat.

Your comment made it sound like it’s a privacy concern that there’s a plug-in in Gnome or KDE or that there are apps that use the Google drive API, which is not the case. It’s not even code that’s developed by Google.
