One nitpick with this: This only applies to the US.

I get that a large percentage of Lemmy (and Reddit, earlier on) are from the US, but it bugs me that things like this default to being US-centric without mentioning it.

Be that as it may, not mentioning which nation the topic applies to enforces the notion that the US is the default if no other context is given.

What about a technology permit, so you’re only allowed to develop technologized products if you get a permit from the Ministry of Proprietary Technology.

Not to be a dick, because I agree, but this doesn’t really answer the question.

The same goes for a lot of big-name software.

They know you’re pirating their software. Almost everything phones home, whether you pirate it or not. Unless the ping comes from a MAC address of a machine bought by a company, they don’t care.

They are usually placed a bit closer, so the move from the toilet to the bidet is just a scooch over.
