One of them is EXACTLY 8 ASCII characters, may not contain any English dictionary word, no repeating character. At least 1 number, and at least 1 special characters. Just obliterates the search space.
I believe I understand the perspectives, but I’m unconvinced that there isn’t asymmetry. It’s one person’s job.
Like, I’ll whine all day about my job. But I’m under no illusions that I didn’t sign up for it, and I’m extremely cognizant that while it’s a bummer that I have to do my job, I understand that the people I support are having a worse day than I am. I’m not doing anyone a favour, I’m doing my job.
It is the AD credentials. It’s a fortune 500 company and it doesn’t even come close to NIST recommendations.
We have like 3 different ADs as a result of mergers and acquisitions, and the requirements are all different.
See I think this is where in general people in it misunderstand the impact.
Like, if it’s -40 and your furnace breaks, who is having the worse day, you or the furnace repair man?
The repair man might be grumbling because they have to do their job, but you’re grumbling because you’re freezing. You both might be grumbling, but by way of impact there is a massive asymmetry in impact.
You can’t
Then why are they different between systems? Do you have different insurers per application?
This is exactly my face when IT is telling me the rules for my passwords.
I agree that would be ideal.
I flat out do not trust each of the 500 devs operating on our codebase to maintain comments.
Tests are documentation, code can be documentation. Those run through CI.
If you can keep comments updated at scale, do it. If you can’t don’t pray for a miracle and find something that you actually can enforce
Writings self documenting code is so important.
Comments get stale and over time transition from: accurate to outdated, to eventually flat-out lies.
Go hard in the paint when choosing method or variable names. If it’s hard to give them coherent names, that’s a code smell.
I’d buy the shit out of a plugin hybrid the size of a 93 ranger
What percentage of F150s have the maximum bed size for that vehicle which is 8 ft?
How much drywall do you think has been moved with a pickup with a box shorter than 8 ft?
What percentage of pickup trucks do you see without a single paint scuff in the box?
It’s not the size of a truck that makes it a toy.
The 93 ford ranger was perfect. I hate these fucking abominations we have now and I think industry grossly underestimated the demand for a sensible pickup
Yeah like the programming language
Gonna whisper what the first word in “PHP” stands for
Compilation error or run time errors? One is a gift and the other is a curse.
Any language in which whitespace has syntactic value is intrinsically flawed.
Can’t speak to your specific issues, but that’s why yaml will always suck.
Feels right. As much as I wanted to try and build/play some kind of support or utility, the character balance just wildly favours hard-carries with ults that pretty much guarantee at least one kill.
I think if they can tweak for some more reasonable support/utility then we’ll see better outcomes across the board
I actually generally hear this phrase IRL from teenagers making minimum wage while trying to get some boomer to stop badgering them to accept an expired coupon.
It’s just how limits work.
The issue isn’t with the software.
Imagine if I had photo radar sending tickets for people who were “almost” speeding.
The software config isn’t about “the markets” or “corporations”.
