Hey, Bread Guy, do you know the Mango Guy?
Triumph@fedia.iotomicromobility - Bikes, scooters, boards: Whatever floats your goat, this is micromobility@lemmy.world•Why You Should Never Buy an E-Bike From Amazon (or Target or Best Buy)144·4 days agoEven one of the “problems” he cites - that many bike shops will refuse to work on the cheap one - is evidence of the elitism.
If I want my Walmart wheel trued, and a shop refuses to do it, that’s not a problem with the bike.
Because any time anything changes in Windows, people bitch about it.

Triumph@fedia.ioto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•In which ways the dot com craze of the late 90s and the current AI market differ? In which ways are the same phenomena?34·6 days agoThey differ in one major way: the economy was straight booming in the late 90s, and not in just a “rich people passing more money around amongst themselves” way. That dot com boom did end with a bunch of startups going bust, but it was also part of the process of building the internet we have today. Lots of hardware, lots of cabling, lots of towers, lots of people employed in making, installing, configuring, maintaining. In the end, the dot com boom created something.
This “AI” thing is a lot more “pouring barrels of money into literal incinerators”.
I just bought a Reolink camera, as opposed to the cloud-only ones. It’s quite nice, requires no account anywhere for it to work including person/pet/vehicle detection. Has FTP configuration so you can have the device upload footage to an FTP server of your choosing, or just leave it on the MicroSD card.
While I don’t have a home assistant center, I’m sure this one has those capabilities.
Triumph@fedia.ioto You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK that only by being yourself will you find people who like the real you. No one can beat you at being you, but you’ll only ever be second best at pretending to be someone else.3·8 days agoThat last bit reveals something important.
Be yourself unless you’re too weird. There will be no elaboration on what “too weird” is.
So here we all are, every day wondering “Am I too weird?” and not daring to find out lest we be shunned.

No one can beat you at being you, but you’ll only ever be second best at pretending to be someone else.86·8 days agoThis is easy (read: privileged) advice to follow if you’re entirely self-sufficient. Most people aren’t. Most people need things from other people, which means that they have to tailor their words and actions accordingly, so that they’re not cut off from resources.

Triumph@fedia.iotoMental Health@lemmy.world•I feel nothing but emptiness every single day2·9 days agoThis is good news I think. It suggests that at least part of your experience is biochemical, which means there’s a decent chance that some of it can be relieved with diet or medication or both.

Triumph@fedia.ioto U.S. News@beehaw.org•California becomes first state to ban face coverings for most law enforcement31·17 days agoIt’s easy to get excited by the headline before you discover that it’s not really that. The original comment about it being performative isn’t ridiculous.
Triumph@fedia.ioto U.S. News@beehaw.org•California becomes first state to ban face coverings for most law enforcement13·17 days agoDoesn’t go into effect until summer 2026; has exceptions for various things, including “medical masks”; violation is a misdemeanor, which means a small fine.
This is a container ship. All those big ones are containers ships.
