Not all ICE motorcycles are like that. Some people straight pipe their motorcycle to make it obnoxiously loud. But my Suzuki GZ250 is fairly quiet, even at full throttle at 8000rpm you couldn’t hear it from a block away

FX File Explorer. Super fast, feature-rich, and customizable, free with no ads and tracking.
I’ve never had premium, mostly out of spite after the forcing ads on unmonetized creators and removing the dislike count, once I was able to afford it. But I’ve seen some other post on Lemmy with the “products you may like” appearing on a premium account.
I’ve seen people getting a “products you may like” in the suggestions, with premium. There is no way to remove that (other than uBlock origin)
It’s not just that, it’s also random content totally outside of your interest (I watch gaming and motorcycle content and it tries to feature some foreign holiday celebration videos lol) and worse, “products you may like.”
If I pay this kind of money, I expect an API to user-respecting third party apps.
That’s what they should do. Allow use of Reddit-style third party apps (before the API debacle) for premium users.
It’s not about paying, it’s about still getting these stupid featured pop-ups after paying.
This is the true reason why I don’t have YouTube premium. This is quite an awful experience for a supposedly premium subscription. Why pay for premium if the experience is better using free methods?
Please corporations, treat paying subscribers well.
That’s not gonna solve the problem when everything is switching to electric. It’ll be even cheaper to power a vehicle like this, plus they can cram it with batteries to tout a high range. See: Hummer EV.
On storage, the markup is about 2000%.
And on RAM if we compare to DDR5 (not totally fair because of how Apple’s unified memory works), it’s about 800% marked up.
My motorcycle is 330lbs and has 20hp, and with my weight it has about the power to weight ratio of a Prius. It has a slower 0-60 and 2/3 the top speed of a Prius. However, it’s a lot more fun and even gets better mpg!
In the power to weight ratio, you’re forgetting that the rider’s weight is significant on a motorcycle but negligible in a car.
As someone into motorcycling, I disagree. Only the tiny mopeds are getting 100+ mpg. My 250cc gets 65mpg on average. Most big cruisers get 35-45mpg, most middleweight bikes get 40-50mpg, and most fast sport bikes get 30-35mpg, or something like 20 if you’re riding it hard.
Still a lot more smiles per gallon than any ICE car.
No, that’s not abysmal. Have you seen the other electric motorcycles? The new electric Ninjas get like 40 miles of range, and the more expensive Live wire gets 100-150. The Zeros probably also get 75-150 miles of range at highway speeds.
For another perspective, my ICE Suzuki GZ250 gets something like 170 miles to a tank at highway speeds, but I don’t have a fuel gauge so I refill every 100-130 miles. Other ICE motorcycles like some Harley-Davidson Sportsters get just 100 miles in a full tank of gas due to a small tank and big engine. The fast sport bikes tend to get about 150. Even the Goldwing, a luxury touring motorcycle, gets about 190 miles to a tank.
It’s rare to see 200+ miles of range in an ICE motorcycle at highway speeds, so I think it’s quite impressive to get this range in an electric motorcycle at highway speeds. The charging speed also seems quite good, as I’d probably want a 20 minute break after 175 miles of riding. The only thing that sucks is the high price, you can get a brand new Hayabusa for 20% less than this.
10k gets you a brand new Yamaha MT-09: A sick-looking naked motorcycle with a 3 cylinder 118hp engine. It’s really frickin fast.
I had higher hopes for this when I saw the picture. It looks like an electric Grom, so I thought it would have 7500W or more of power. If that was true, that would be a fun bike.
They dropped it in the newest Xperia 1 V. Still kept all of the other great features though.
With how locked down mobile is compared to desktop I think it’s a good thing to start with mobile
I think it should be a flat number of years like 20 years, giving the author plenty of time to exclusively control his IP and then afterwards they can still profit because they can still make things from the same IP and sell them to people knowing that they were the founder of the IP.
I feel like the death of the author clause gives a perverse incentive to murder the author so that their IP becomes public domain sooner.
I read the article, and the direction Honda is going worries me, scares me even.
I wish all the best for electric-powered motorcycles. I can’t wait to see them become cost-competitive with gas motorcycles. I think Honda would do quite well with an e-grom.
But, Honda doesn’t seem to just focus on switching the powertrain to electric. They emphasize connectivity and tech. Don’t get me wrong, I like high-tech motorcycles, look at the Yamaha R1. But there is one clear line I draw where the tech becomes detrimental: The point where the addition of new tech gives the manufacturer more control over the bike.
With the Yamaha R1, all the tech is either to make the motorcycle safer to ride (cornering ABS), or make the ride more customizable (power modes). These settings don’t frequently change unless you tell it to and it can all be turned off.
But I’m seeing that Honda wants to copy Zero’s “make the customer pay to unlock the feature that the hardware already supports,” plus adding features enabling the collection and selling of user data. This is especially scary if insurance companies buy the data. It takes away the freedom of motorcycling, as you are metaphorically being ruled by greedy companies.
