Robinson hasn’t been popular as Lieutenant Governor, and his latest stuff didn’t help. But the case another brought up is how he still got 40%. And that’s after Trump cut ties. The rural area amazes me sometimes.

I think it’s much more than that really, but yes, that is the only way to slam the brakes on things, and even with that some feedbacks might be already too far into play.

And there is why even knowing what might have a chance doesn’t matter. This isn’t a “we should give up” viewpoint, but simply doing the math and physics. Because of what it takes energy-wise and logistics to remove that much carbon permanently from the cycle using zero emission energy sources (that we don’t have), it’s simply not going to happen. The “don’t give up” attitude isn’t to look for a fix, as even stopping all emissions right now won’t do that. It’s to realize that we have a harsh future ahead and to plan for just that, mitigate the damage as best we can and prepare for the worst. Anyone promising anything more than that is either ignorant of the facts, or is trying to sell you something while you’ll still buy.
Maybe it depends on the media you’re seeing. I don’t get that impression from what I see to wait, it’s all about coming out and being part of the process.
The only difference is to spread out the opportunity so everyone can vote. No vote is counted until Election Day, so this is no different than mailing in a vote early to make sure it gets in on time.
Early voting and mail-in absentee votes are a thing where Republicans haven’t restricted them. It makes sense to spread it out if you look at how wait times for even early voting can get into several hours. Why in the world would anyone want to try and do it in one day? How could all the votes be possibly done…oh, that’s why.
It’s a good thing to alert people on, as I’m sure this won’t be the lone example of odd activity, in Georgia or other states. The best place to affect votes is at the voting places, and lots of ways to do it, subtle or otherwise.
Now I’m curious on what the laws are. Everyone’s familiar with the signage of no campaigning past a certain distance from the polling area, but wouldn’t any activity that isn’t actual voting related be considered trespassing right now? If an official there told them to leave and they refused, wouldn’t that mean the police or sheriff gets involved?
Intimidation comes in all forms. Let’s just say that this is not normal behavior around a polling site, and given it’s inside it’s definitely past barriers for anything beyond casting your own vote. Toss them out, even if they are just lost early Halloweeners.
Even fresh water has stuff dissolved in it, just in lesser amounts. Pure water isn’t a naturally occurring thing that lasts long. There are two components, water’s polarity which grabs things that are available, and how water in a large system that is getting energy isn’t going to stay still and “sit there”.
Something interesting I learned the other day in following the recent launch of the Europa Clipper. One of the things they want to explore is how as Europa moves through the huge magnetic field of Jupiter it induces a magnetic field of its own. Why is this relevant? It’s one bit of evidence that the waters under the ice have salts dissolved in them, giving them conductivity to produce this field. So even there water is not “fresh”.
Fertile for what though? It’s true there is more greening in some places, but that doesn’t equate to a better world for humans and animals used to the previous climate. Plants are better at adapting to this, for now anyway.
The fertility of the soil that I brought up isn’t even about CO2.

Point being, we already have oil we haven’t burned yet that will shoot us far past any limits we’ve pretended we’ll adhere to, and yet we’re still looking for more oil to dig up. How can this end well?
Under the Arctic. Underneath the seabeds in the deep oceans. Probably other places that are hard to get to right now.
The question that really needs to be asked is not can we find more oil, we absolutely can and will seek it out. We should ask, can the environment that we live in support more burning of even more oil? We all know that answer, that’s why we’re cutting our emissions down rapidly. /s
Peak oil was about conventional oil. Had we not discovered other sources and methods for extraction then we likely would have run out. And running out isn’t accurate, it’s just that oil becomes harder to extract and thus too expensive for regular uses.
There are many things that were predicted as a collapse factor that we then innovated solutions to break past those barriers. We’re too smart for our own good, because each time we find new ways to keep going we make things worse and get ourselves even more into a dead end. When we do “run out” of oil of any type, which will happen at the growing rate we use it up, will we be smart again and find replacements for all the things petroleum is used for (not just fuel)? One important one being fertilizer to make food grow in our otherwise barren soils. Fun fact: people need to eat to live. Most people in the world, especially the western world, exists and survive because of food thanks to oil.
Lastly, we would have done so much better post-collapse if things had happened naturally with a smaller population and less damage to the environment. The higher you fall, the more it will hurt, and we’re damn high now compared to the mid/late 20th century.
That’s not what I remember from Close Encounters, but it’s been a while and maybe saucer flying regulations have changed since then.
Depends on if they’re signalling to land or not. Do they have hazards on or are already on descent? Since the responsible thing as a driver is to avoid any conflicts where I can, I’d give way being an unusual event, just like I’d let someone cut across lanes to get to an exit. They’re at fault and the anomaly, but if I can keep from being part of an accident I’ll do it. Trying to be dominant on the roadways at all costs is what causes many of the accidents.
I’d just treat it as an aircraft that is making an emergency landing, and not try and hold my lane because I have the right of way. That won’t end well for anyone.
If there’s any original truth to it all, they were probably told to hold the flights in because of all the rescue efforts in the area. Of course, Elon took that personally.
