  • I tried to use Proton for steam games, baked right in, shouldn’t have many issues right? I’d still encounter games that just didn’t work or had catastrophic bugs. Games that use kernals level anticheat are just not possible without emulation, I couldn’t find low latency emulation, it was… A trial in futility for me. The more I tried to make Linux work the more I had to ask myself why I couldn’t just rip out the windows bloat and use it instead. I thought I was a Windows power user and it would translate to Linux, I was mistaken. I’ve taken for granted how universal Windows is and I have a respect for people willing to beat Linux into submission.

  • I finally tried Linux. Tried three different Distros meant for beginners and it couldn’t do the one thing I do most better than Windows. Gaming. Too many programs or overlay tools are Windows only. Compatibility programs rarely worked. Wine laughed in my face. Some Linux tools were also only compatible with other kernals.

I made the switch to have more control and felt like I left one series of cages for another.

  • AMD have the right idea in trying to target the value to performance crowd. People that want every dollar to count. You get diminishing returns the higher you reach and that’s the biggest drawback to Nvidia. The abysmal value.

But I hate Nvidia from a moral perspective as well. Proprietary software, paying game developers to use that software, inflated claims that their hardware will play those games better because of that software, then convincing the average public they just have a superior product when all they’re really good at is what amounts to bribes.

Ryzen has been more effective than RX because Intel had zero ability to respond and still doesn’t. They went to make GPUs because they couldn’t break the wall for CPUs. Before AMD crawled out of the grave, Nvidia and Intel had a full blown market monopoly. Inescapable.

I’m not interested in that continuing, so I’ll stick out a 7% worse product for $200 less and hope that throwing money at AMD will get them to compete on the bleeding edge with Nvidia like they are with Intel.

  • Because nobody likes self aggrandizement. The perception that so many people only do it to make themselves appear to be better people because of their morally superior choice is often a vile taste to anyone who hasn’t made that same choice.

We all know eating meat is bad and for the many reasons for it. What we don’t want to hear is that someone made the switch and that their bleeding heart simply couldnt take it anymore.

I eat beyond meat and I do my best to transition, yet, I’d never say that for the purpose of making myself seem like a better person. Vegans typically do.
