It might be the same one in the original Sim City. Definitely seared into my brain, and I hear it in shows, too

PrimeErective@startrek.websiteto Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Proton is now enabled by default on Steam to make Linux gaming simplerEnglish1·2 months agoDo you think adding to /etc/envoronment would work with kde-inhibit? I’ve been trying to find a way to have Steam block sleep when a game is running, which I can do on a game-by-game basis with kde-inhibit, but I want it to run for every steam game. For some reason my machine does not inhibit sleep when games are running, or even when audio or video are playing

It’s not officially supported yet, so happy to wait for the update. Otherwise it worked really well.

PrimeErective@startrek.websiteto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do all languages share the same intonation for questions?2·11 months agoThe first two have emphasis that imply something different than a simple question. Like you are asking a bunch of people individually, and you are directing each question at a specific person.
The last one would maybe be like, if the person did something weird, and you were sarcastically asking where the are from, to imply that they were raised by wolves, or something like that.
Point being, yes, you can ask like that, but it has different connotations than a simple question, which I think is where you would use the rising intonation.
PrimeErective@startrek.websiteto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do all languages share the same intonation for questions?31·11 months agoI’m totally with you. I think it is somewhat speaker dependent, but that is how I would say those questions.

PrimeErective@startrek.websiteto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do all languages share the same intonation for questions?1·11 months agoI guess in this example, “who is your daddy?” Is the main question, which has a somewhat flat intonation, but contrasted to the emphasis in the second half of the sentence, it feels like a rise

PrimeErective@startrek.websiteto Privacy@lemmy.ml•Decided to start paying predominantly cash again5·1 year agoI agree, cash is fun in Germany. I think it really helps that the 1 and 2 euro coins are available and used in circulation. It was so nice going into the Späti and buying a beer with a single coin.
Change feels unnecessary in the States since the highest denomination that’s widely circulated is the quarter dollar. There are dollar coins, but they are hardly ever used.
Ah ok, I think that’s actually a different one. This is the one I’m thinking of:
