  • I see many folks here mentioning Dave Chapelle as a right-wing comedian, which is a joke in itself. Dave Chapelles’ personal politics and much of the politics mentioned in his stand-up are not right-wing. He has a blend of center right/center left beliefs and supports progressive candidates. I understand there is controversy with his LGBTQ+ material and commentary, but that does not make all of his politics right-wing. This strikes me as coming from people who have little exposure to the black American community, where these attitudes are prevalent regardless of the individuals’ other politics. It is slowly improving, but it isn’t great. Frankly, I don’t know why it is he continues to antagonize and harp on this for hours at a time. It is very strange and I know he’s capable of much funnier material.

  • I agree. I only have shallow knowledge of 40k, but the exploration of the history around the universe was very fascinating. I also think it’s interesting that this issue seems to occur with satire, particularly when involving fascism. It brings to mind starship troopers and the more recent helldivers, how so many miss the point. I can’t help but feel the glorification of the military and military service in many of today’s societies lends itself to this problem. The military is inherently authoritarian, against diversity (including diversity of thought), and intentionally dehumanizes “the enemy” (turns out, it isn’t easy to kill people). Couple this with an image of masculinity that centers around adversity at best, and violence at worst along with so many men who feel they have missed opportunities to meet this standard and you have a recipe for fascists. How do we address this within our society? I don’t have the answers, but we should all be thinking about it.

  • I won’t play forza online anymore, rammers just ruin the entire experience. I understand incidental collisions, but that intential shit just isn’t fun. They really need to implement a system that can track intentional ramming and match those people with each other so they are stuck in a rammer hell, and the rest of us can just enjoy the game. Ideally, the system wouldn’t be visible and account bound so it will follow you in the sequels. This way way the people who get joy out of ruining things for others are only ruining things for other assholes.

  • That is a good point about not wanting anything to change. We can not continue to live how we’ve lived if this will be solved. Reductions in population should help reduce demand and land use (enforced with law, of course), but some things people enjoy will have to go. You don’t need to eat foods grown thousands of miles away or to eat beef every day. You may have to endure temperature discomfort, lose personal transportation options, etc. Even these things are small, government (especially militaries) and business will need to be held to account and have their emissions massively reduced.

  • It might a difference in income or cultures where we’ve lived, though I feel I’ve had a balance and a mixture of issues. These aren’t all at once, usually. There are just people who don’t give a fuck about how their behavior affects those around them and I’d like to reduce my chances of encountering them, personally.

  • I’m not talking about basic shit when I talk about loud people, read my list from another comment. Loud arguments, fighting, shooting, etc. Not to mention the bodily fluids left on and around buildings from tenants and their pets. Idk where this idea that shitty people are non existent comes from, but it is a beautiful fantasy.

  • That movie quote isn’t clever or original, especially out of context. I didn’t “meet” these people or even interact with them. We simply existed within the vicinity of each other, and they were people that had no regard or consideration for the other people that live around them. This is very similar to people who blast shitty audio from their phones, walk on the left, take up the entirety of the sidewalk, don’t yield for pedestrians, don’t respect lines, etc. Assholes do, in fact, exist in many contexts.

  • I like how the assumption at the end is that I’m somehow an issue for those around me. I never stated that I, in turn, cause problems for the assholes around me. One thing I know about assholes is that they only escalate, so it is best to disengage if possible. But i suppose you’re right; people who are obnoxiously loud at all hours, run/stomp around, yell/scream at each other, fight, shoot, allow their animals to urinate/deficate anywhere, urinate/deficate anywhere themselves, have loud ass animals, park vehicles just anywhere, have loud ass vehicles, etc. are probably saints, and I’m just a menace to society.

  • I agree that zoning, while necessary, has been used improperly in some cases. Obviously, you don’t want a waste site near homes, hospitals, etc. On the other hand, there’s no reason you can’t have some kind of restaurant, grocery store, apartments, etc. in a neighborhood. In fact, that would be preferential, as it would reduce driving needs.
