To be very brief:
Beehaw seeks primarily to protect its users and create a space where they aren’t going to be attacked for being who they are.
The Beehaw admins noticed they were dealing with a lot of hate from 2 lemmy instances which had open sign ups.
Beehaw defederated from those 2 instances.
There’s been some kickback from people who think defederating goes against the core values of Lemmy.

Then they block your site and prevent you ever doing business in one of the world’s largest markets. I’m not sure how liability works but the CEO may also be unable to travel to the EU also

Pretty sure spez is making a ton of money at this point. He’s been working on Reddit for like 15 years and ,while I’m sure he’s managed to earn a nice paycheck for some of those years, he’s finally in reach of a big payout
I expect he will (because I’d do the same) sell his shares ASAP and disappear from public life
