  • Yeah I fear society will get to the point in corporate autocracy, or corporate-feudalism where Google sues uBlock Origin out of existence (for lost revenue).

…and that’ll be a dark day, and it will be hard not to blame the people who just put up with ads and a loss of privacy. Who can just stomach Surveillance Capitalism’s incredibly flawed and one sided nature.

Those people are laying bricks for the foundation of a society I don’t agree with, and don’t want to participate in.

  • So you are of the opinion that strong and sustainable environment protections can produce a Capitalism that isn’t exploitative of nature?

But you essentially support sustainable industrial Capitalism, as long as your environment criteria is met?

…so does that mean you understand people recognizing brands, and being disconnected from nature? Because I don’t think your suggestions would prevent that phenomena.

Sorry you feel I’m riding you, or if it seems like I’m expecting you to have all the answers. Sorry if you feel attacked or something. I’m just picking your brain.

I have a vague idea that Solarpunk has neoliberal Capitalist inclinations (is a dream of a “Neo-capitalism”), and has an underdeveloped understanding of how Capitalism forms an inevitable system of totalitarian exploitation that can never simply or completely be resolved right?

Someone is still slaving over the solar panels to coat them in curious chemicals and highly processed additives… Oh I better stop there before you accuse me of meandering again.

But I will say, the purpose vs actual function of people’s fantasy worlds interests me. WHY we dream what we dream, and HOW that might break down if it became a full realised reality.

  • Yes, willow bark is considered to alleviate pain because it contains salicylic acid, an ingredient in pain killers which I’m assuming would need a two part extraction process (because it’s an acid) probably using a solvant than something more base, then some evaporation…

…but your argument is underdeveloped. Why would it not be exploitation if I did this chemical extraction process, but would be exploitation when someone else does it? What are your conditions that define it as exploitation? What are the constraints or qualifiers that make it exploitative?

Also, why assume that people don’t know this stuff? Some people no doubt do. How else would we be exploiting it?

  • It’s almost like we just remember stuff associated with foods we prefer?

…kinda just like we’re supposed to do. It’s like it’s a natural thing we do or something.

Not that hard to figure out, and in this case pretending it’s wrong or misaligned with our objectives (to grab the right foods we like) is the incorrect position to take.

Of course we recognize the signs of resources we’re after. We’re humans, we adapt in order to gain and prosper.

If you want to forget the brands and remember the forest foods, just try getting all your food from the forest … I’m betting within a few years you’ll start to forget brands, and recognize natural food sources instead.

We’re just like that. We’re humans.

  • How about something autonomous that makes choices of its own will, and performs long term learning that influences the choices it makes, just as a flat benchmark.

LLMs don’t qualify, they’re trained, retain information within a conversation, then forget it after the conversation is closed. They don’t do any long term learning after their initial training so they’re basically forever trapped in the mode of regurgitating within the parameters set by the training data at the time they’re trained.

That’s just a very fancy way to search and read out the training data. Definitely not an active intelligence in there.

They also don’t have any autonomy, they’re not active of their own accord when they’re not being addressed. They’re not sitting there thinking, so they have no internal personal landscape of thought. They have no place in which a private intelligence can be at play.

    They’re innert.

  • Oof, programmers calling LLMs “AI” - that’s embarrassing. Glorified text generators don’t need ethics, what’s the risk? Making the Internet’s worst texts available? Who cares.

I’m from an era when the Anarchists Cook Book, and The Unabombers Manifesto were both widely available - and I’m betting they still are.

There’s no obligation to protect people from “dangerous text” - there might be an obligation to allow people access to them though.

  • The billionaires behind the think tanks are doing better than ever, that’s the point of the think tanks. None of this is going away even if ut lulls. It’s a sustained effort.

Tim Pool, David Rubin, Jordan Peterson, Ben Shapiro (whose daily wire was started with fracking money from Dan and Ferris wilks), Andy Gno, (whose post-millenial was started by an Israeli real estate billionaire)… They all made money, huge amounts of money. Tim Pool was making $400,000 an episode twice a month for years… And these are thevlow level defenders of the billionaire Libertarian think tanks.

Trump officials probably made so much more.

So it doesn’t really matter what happens, we can be sure efforts will not go away. Dwindle, but this is what they know how to do, and they’ve been handed massive wealth in the process… They’ll use that wealth to continue thier efforts.

You can “not buy” that viewers would be that dumb (many are) but that’s not the point. The machine has been paid, the political apparatus to produce the far right media will continue in many different forms.
