This is an issue sometimes. It’s not great when suddenly there’s no sidewalk and you’re walking alongside a busy road. That said, I don’t think this is the main contributor. I think people are just in the habit of driving everywhere to the point where they won’t walk 15 minutes from their house to a convenience store and will opt to drive instead, and this is in neighbourhoods with good sidewalks and no particularly busy roads. People just don’t think about walking as a means to get anywhere and they’ll frequently drive just a couple of blocks if they’re going to visit somebody nearby too, in my experience anyway.

I mean… Couldn’t rounding be considered a technicality?

I don’t drink alcohol, so I cannot comment on that.

But that said, I kind of think of coffee as being pretty similar to chocolate. It’s an earthy but bitter flavour that can be nice, often when paired with something sweet and creamy. Also there are nice espressos that are kind of fruity and creamy on their own. There’s plenty flavours that are overwhelming on their own, but complement other flavours nicely. People are also known to like intense experiences, like really spicy foods.

Anyway, I won’t fight you if you don’t like it. That’s totally reasonable :).

I’m convinced the “ugh, decaf, what’s the point?” people don’t actually like coffee lol.

To be honest it’s kind of weird here in North America. People frequently act like a 15 minute walk is crazy, and a 30 minute walk is impossible. These people could walk that far, it’s not a fitness issue, just people pretty much always just default to driving everywhere in certain places.

Running Jellyfin off of a VPS provider seems needlessly expensive. I guess server hardware has an upfront cost, but having real hardware to host it on at home will be far more cost effective long term, especially for storage.

Yeah, that’s my main concern. I believe the Immich developers have said they have no desire to implement it, though… Which is fair enough, it doesn’t work for my desired use case though.

I want all data to be encrypted before it even reaches the server. Yes, I don’t want to trust even my own server for my image backups :), particularly since I would want to use something like Immich to provide photo backups for friends and family and I don’t even want to technically have access to their unencrypted photos unless they explicitly share them. I kind of want the attack surface for my photos to be as small as practical too. It’s almost certainly worse to have them available on my device unencrypted than a dedicated server, but it’s worse to have them unencrypted on both (and I want photos available on device so, thems the breaks).

I get that a lot of people won’t care about this and that they’d rather be able to run the image recognition features of Immich on the server and stuff, but I don’t think it’s entirely unreasonable to want encryption for this. If nothing else I’d love to be able to back up photos for friends and family and legitimately be able to tell them that it’s encrypted and I can’t see any of it. It’d be even sweeter if they could do image recognition on device and sync that metadata (encrypted) to the server as well.

I’m kind of disappointed by the lack of encryption. It sounds great, but I don’t want to trust the server.

This would cause other problems too. People will mostly vote for more popular games because more people own them… Realistically I don’t think there’s a way to do this that would actually be meaningful. In general I’ve started to place an extreme amount of distrust in ratings for games and movies because realistically I don’t care what the average person thinks of a piece of media… I care what I think, and aggregate measures like that don’t really give you a good impression of that. It seems more useful to find good curators and people with similar tastes (or tastes you understand so you can say “oh they liked this, but I don’t like that kind of stuff as much as them” or “oh they didn’t like this, but that stuff is more my jam than theirs”.

More margin to big sellers seems sort of backwards to me, but I guess it makes it easier to convince large publishers to put games on steam? Personally I’m more interested in bigger margins for indies, but maybe I’m ignorant.

For what it’s worth I also haven’t had any problems. Maybe we’re just lucky, though.

My brain starts to freeze in loud environments. Ear plugs help me too :). It’s a tip that took me far too long to realize.

I have misophonia and kids are definitely a big trigger in a lot of ways… Screaming, crying, chewing, coughing. It’s anecdotal, but yeah the high pitch sounds don’t play nice with my brain. Misophonia suuuuuuuuuucks.

I also don’t particularly like kids, but that’s not really about the sound. Just not my cup of tea.
