I don’t have time to mess around with Arch or customizing things. I tried a couple live boots and went with Mint. Spent 2 hours picking a theme, wallpaper, and menu icon. Boom, done.

Hell yeah. FreeCAD is awful. I use NX for work, and will do my personal stuff on there as well. It’s all just for me, I dont sell anything. But I would still love to use my own PC for it. FreeCAD is absolutely unusable.

Yeah, that is super handy. I wish this one had that. That’s what I was trying to emulate with the audio extractor.

Hah, no. Kinda looks like it, though. It’s a lamp, made out of a big glass vase and some LEDs, and the inside is a burned out resistive load that helped dissipate the excess energy from an old automated welding station. Basically, a big heatsink with a bunch of huge resistors. Just meant to dump a ton of energy out as heat for a few seconds at a time. I don’t have any better pics of it, I’m afraid.

Just do what I do. DVI to HDMI to an HDMI audio extractor to DVI.

Knoppix! I forgot that existed. Wow, what a blast from the past. I remember trying that out in high school. 3.2 or 3.3. Something like that. I just knew it took a long time to download via dial-up.

Same. I really wanted to like Plasma, it’s really nice looking. But it just never works right for me. Most recently, my PC would crash every time I woke it from sleep. And my cursor wouldn’t stay locked to one screen in-game. No issues at all with Cinnamon. Everything just worked out of the box. And there are plenty of themes and icons to dress it up a bit. I used Gnome 2 back in high school, so if I didn’t use Cinnamon I think I’d probably go with MATE since it’s a familiar feel.

I tried FreeCAD last week, and it was absolute trash. Extruding individual curves from a sketch as surfaces? Nah. Extruding multiple bodies from one sketch? Yes, but you can’t select them individually for subsequent operations. Are there synchronous modeling tools? I couldn’t find any. Rotation is terrible no matter which option I tried. If only I could get my SpacePilot Pro working with it. Can you even do any advanced surfacing? I could go on and on.

I was hoping for something akin to SolidWorks, which is kind of a second-teir modeling software in my eyes, but it was just a little better than AutoCAD. Maybe I’m just spoiled with NX. I just found it completely unusable.
