But since you had to sell your 'Feng to make ends meet, you might want to just sit back a bit before getting back into the hobby. It can be done very inexpensively, but that’s relative, and someone who is hurting enough for an extra $5-10 to sell their Baofeng definitely can’t afford what it would take to get more active in amateur radio.

I know this probably isn’t what you were hoping to hear, but other than showing up to club meetings there isn’t much you can do that won’t cost more than the $20 to buy another UV-5R. Even homebrew projects like building antennas for your SDR will cost at least that much.

On the other hand, borrowing from aviation, I am keen to “use all available resources”, recognizing that so long as we have the tech and tools, we should use them, even if that may fly in the face of radio purity.

Hmm. I think this is generally fine, but if you were working a contest (like Field Day, for example), it would probably be cheating. I don’t think there’s any problem with taking the Eagle Scout route, though. Holding yourself to a higher standard of honor brings its own rewards.

Hard to see how that couldn’t be meant as, at best, a passive-aggressive dig, implying some level of instability or paranoia.

“The media” is a common term in American English that refers to mainstream news outlets. I said I felt gaslit because the early headlines and articles on this topic suggested that names were made visible, not that they were merely added to accounts.

Regardless, there is no call for personal attacks. I’m sure you can find the maturity to respond to comments you disagree with in ways that don’t involve attacking the users who post them.

I went to my Glassdoor account and the only place I could see my name was in the community part, where people ask questions of other professionals. Some users still seemed to have their names hidden, so it must be possible to do so. My company reviews are still anonymous.

The tuning of an antenna is significantly less important for receiving compared to transmitting, so any 2-meter antenna should work decently for listening to TRACON.

That you can actually see your repeater but have to stand in the window to hear it suggests that there may be something else going on there, even if you have a rubber duck antenna.

I’m not saying you’re wrong about how originally only white male landowners were able to vote. But… That’s completely irrelevant to the issue of apportioning representation. The bicameral legislature provides fair representation to every state, whether it’s big or small. I don’t see how that could be anything but beneficial to everyone, whether they be a white male landowner in California or a black female renter in Rhode Island.

Anyway, you aren’t going to convince me that your folly is the best course for this nation. I’m not too concerned because, like I said, you’ll never get enough states to go along with such a horrible plan to replace the Constitution.

You gotta return to your grade-school history textbooks, my friend. You can even read what the Framers wrote as they debated, at length, this very topic. It was the major sticking point between the populous states and the less populous states, and the bicameral legislature was the compromise.

Either way, I’m not concerned. You’ll never get enough states to give up their representation so it’ll never happen.

There’s a reason the people who wrote the Constitution decided upon federalism as our form of government. It protects the minority from the tyranny of the majority. This concept is especially important as the urban majority seeks to assert its ignorant tyranny on the rural minority these days.

The United States isn’t a single government like most non-federal nations. There is plenty of democracy in our local and state governments, and we have our bicameral Congress which accounts for both the equality of the states, no matter their populations, as well as the inequality of the states, taking into account their populations. Remove that equality and you will be unable to get enough states to ratify your new constitution.

Your suggestion would only usher in a different kind of tyranny.

The executives of a corporation are legally required to maximize immediate returns to their investors. It’s literally illegal for a CEO to move a company in the direction of civic responsibility over profit. And it’s not just “profit” – it has to be increasing profit. Line has to go up; they can’t just keep it flat, even if “flat” is hugely profitable.

Unfortunately, many of the people who most heavily dislike the corporate-controlled status quo are feverishly attempting to pass laws to make it harder and more dangerous to do anything other than hope.
