Uber and Lyft have renewed their threats to stop serving Minneapolis if the city council moves ahead with a proposed ordinance setting new pay requirements for rideshare drivers.
Do they promise?
Right? “Okay, bye!”
They left Austin for a while. Competition came in, including a nonprofit created by friends of mine in the local tech sector. It was great. Then the Texas Legislature came in with their big government bullshit, bought and paid for by Lyft and Uber, and made it illegal for cities to set ordinances like that.
EDIT: Old story about it.
Lots of cities are taking to providing their own rideshare service. My city has a $20/hr pay, provides a vehicle (no maintenance costs!) and has 8-hr shifts. It’s DOT regulated so I have to pass a piss test for weed before I can apply, but as soon as I can do that, I’m applying.
That’s the kind of threat a monopoly makes
They think their shitty apps are the only way to get a cab.
I will believe it when it happens. Its their money to lose
