A friend just took a picture of my DIY speakers with my cat Pebbles sitting next to them. You can read more about the speakers here: {Spoiler German ahead} https://www.donhighend.de/?page_id=5022
I thought I would post it here for you to enjoy :-)

Yep, looks very nice.
Are both of the drivers in the same chaimber or are they separated inside? What kind of a chaimber is it (compression, bass-reflex, transmission line)?
Yes both drivers (Tymphany SDS P-830656) are playing in the same bass-reflex chaimber. It’s a 2.5 way design. Haven’t thought about writing more as the link I’ve provided includes all the details about this build. It was my first diy build and I’m absolutely happy with the result!
They perform really well when listening to music in Stereo but lack a bit of bass when watching movies.
Didn’t see the link, sorry 😂.
The size of the speaker is the problem with the lower tones… you just can’t get really low with a 5.25" speaker 🤷.
You may be able to get away with a little bit more bass on those speakers if the box was a transmission line or a quater wave resonator, but those are usually single driver designs (calculations get really complex with double drivers on those). Plus, you do gain more power in the lower tones with those, but you lose control over them, they lose definition 😔 (it’s usually a choice for cheap drivers, ones that don’t sound good anyway). So yeah, if you wanna get more power in the lower tones with a high thin vertical design (basically, what you have), you have no other option except to use a bass-reflex box with double drivers (hell, you could probably even do trippe on that box, it’s high enough, lol 😂). Compression boxes are not meant to be used with double drivers, unless the second “driver” is only a passive membrane.
You may be able to get away with a little bit more lower tones if you put them in the corners of the room. You’d have to experiment with the location a bit (10, 15cm from the corners), but it might be worth it in the end 😉.
They look great BTW, 10/10 on the box 👍.
I ended up buying a 10“ subwoofer for movie nights which helps a lot. I mainly listen to metal and rock which does require fast and accurate bass which the speakers provide quite well. Thanks for the kind words. I really enjoyed building these and to be honest I’m already looking for something new to build 😅
Yes, metal and rock should sound very nice on those speakers ☺️.
And that’s how I solved my problem as well 😂. I just bought big ass woofers (12” drivers) and used that for the lower tones 😂.
Well, good luck in your search ☺️. Oh, and do post if you happen to make some, this comm needs more attention 😅.
