there were probably so many vehicles parked everywhere when this fella pulled up that this was the only place to park. then those people left, making this person look like a selfish asshole.
The first guy didn’t want to be too close to the trollies and the second guy didn’t want to be too close to the first guy.
I know. Cars bad. But there are actual reasons to critique the use of them. Being butthurt by people’s bad parking is not helpful.
Plus. I’m fairly sure that this photo was originally taken by a driver, who was annoyed that he had to walk a bit longer.
If you think about it, making driving more inconvenient could be considered a public service. So maybe bad parking is good actually?
yeah aforementioned driver has just swapped mode for (part of )a journey.
If only someone could invent a more permanent parking obstacle to put there . Maybe out of something like bricks and mortar. Maybe one of those newfangled piles of brick could get visited frequently by giant long car like things with more capacity to move people around.
I’m Australia people with a disability card are permitted to park like this if all of the disability parks are full. The card is displayed in the front window, so it wouldn’t be visible from this angle.
Same in the US, that’s what I assumed when I saw the pic. I’ve done it myself a handful of times.
I… I actually didn’t know this. Thanks fren.
For sure, it’s the same story with this misunderstood victim of circumstance too, no doubt.
oh my! yes! this poor victim! being forced to park in a place where he may displace a person with a placard must weigh heavily on his heart.
Could be…or they are the arsehole. No way to tell for sure.
It says more about you that you give them the benefit of the doubt. Good Human you are.

interestingly, that fact that it’s a Yukon jumped out at me too
Not technically the topic of this community, but close enough I guess.
I’ve definitely been that accidental asshole that gets to reap the public ire due to the ripple effects of someone else’s bad parking.
Also been witness to situations where someone needed space for a wheelchair but didn’t have a handicap placard with them, so had to pull a move like this on purpose.
All in all, I’m not as snap-judgment about this stuff as I was 10-15 years ago.
Edit: Also have found it revelatory witnessing friends/acquaintances get mad about stuff like this.
Me: “Why are you mad?”
Them: “Well, if they just get away with it, then everyone will do it!”
Me: “I still wouldn’t do it.”
Them: “Really?”
Me: shocked pikachu face — they were mad because they secretly want to violate pretty basic norms of decency wtf
Yes, the community doesn’t complain about bad parking, we complain that parking is bad. Why isn’t this lot productive business space with residential above with community gardens at ground level. But instead it’s ecological and economic death and despair so people can freely temporarily abandon their private property in a public place.
I mean, I’ve definitely had to park close to the lines and such but I’ve seen many a giant pick up obviously taking up 2, nay 4 parking spaces. Absolutely no reason for that. I mean, there couldve been another car in place of that sedan parking like a dick but in that case I’d just park closer to the car on the right, even in the wheelchair scenario.
The space to the left is bookended by the cart return. There’s no way one person parked so badly in that space that this SUV needed to be that far over.
