For anyone that isn’t familiar with cubing, the only way a busted cube is supposed to be reassembled is in the fully solved state. Otherwise it’s practically impossible to solve if you just randomly reassemble it.

But in this case, last night I was practicing, and most of a whole side just popped loose in my hand, mid-puzzle. I knew exactly where I was with the puzzle though, carefully snapped all the pieces back in their appropriate mid-puzzle positions, and managed to successfully solve it from there 👍

Note: The photo above is a recreation of last night’s cube breakdown, same puzzle sequence though.

Don’t mind the dots, that’s my own custom mod…

You can assemble a cube randomly.

You’ll possibly just end up with a half-solved-completely-unsolvable cube (for example, with the usual beginner-friendly variant of CFOP, you’ll encounter 1 or 3 yellow cubies in the top layer, instead of 0/2/4). In that case, just pop out those bad cubies, rotate and reassemble.

It’s easiest to disassemble a cube by rotating the top layer halfway (45°), then lift the edge piece. Then remove corners if needed.

You have to put additional images in the post body text using this format ![](img url)

You can put alt text in the []

Fair enough. I’ve seen other Lemmy users using Imgur links to post additional images before.

I don’t have an account, and even if I did, apparently Imgur has blocked the UK recently…

You could link to an imgur album in your post. Or you could take the imgur urls and put them in the format I showed above.

I recently learned how to solve them the intended way from YouTube. I still don’t know how they solve them in seconds! I’m down to about 10 minutes lol

I still can’t quite solve a full random mix puzzle, but within the seemingly large subset of cube/dice puzzle possibilities, if I keep exact track of what puzzle steps I stack onto each other, I can solve it blindfolded or behind my back, and not necessarily in the same exact order.

Yeah, cubes aren’t meant to be done blindfolded, but there really is a subset of scrambles that lend themselves towards it…
