Technically
It’s not even in the outermost layer of the atmosphere! The ISS orbital altitude is somewhere around 420km high (heh) while the thermosphere stretches from 85 to 600km up. The exosphere stretches far beyond that, up to 10000km or so.

Perfect timing. I’m jealous.
Ha, I was going to comment on this.
Boats are also supposed to have white lights at the stern and (if they have one) at the top of the mast.
Breakfast is in my kitchen. A quick ride while I wait for the coffee to brew wouldn’t be a bad thing, though
From the sound of it, the cops never seem to care when it comes to bike thefts. Kind of a hidden hazard of riding.
wonderful 11km bike commute along the river
That sounds lovely! I live in a city that has parkways and greenery along most of the river front – if that were my route to work each day, I’d find it rather soothing. Beautiful path.
I suppose I could. It’s not super practical, though. I don’t have panniers on my bike, limiting the amount I can carry*
Also, it’s a 20 minute bike ride to my usual grocery store - bad for cold stuff (only 5 minutes to the expen$ive local shop, TBF)*
Really, though, my wife picks up more of the groceries than I do – she has a 20 minute drive to work, and the grocery store is only a 5 minute detour by car.
*(the starred items are minor obstacles, not deal-breakers. The more honest answer is “but biking would take more time!” which … ok, is just laziness).
To follow this advice, I’d end up getting my bike out of the garage, riding around the block … then going back inside to turn on my work laptop. I love working from home.
That being said, a 15 minute morning bike ride before work would still be a good idea.
I was surprised that no one posted this yet:
I am not sure arguing all the edge cases does anything but muddy the water.
Eh, fair. Still, I was curious what you’d say about some of those edge cases.
I would argue that the way housing is working right now
Well, that’s the problem, isn’t it? Housing isn’t working right now for way too many people. :(
Personally, I have very different opinions on “in an ideal world, here’s a sketch of how humane housing might look” and “in today’s dystopian hellscape, these are the worst of the worst”
difference between a hotel and a home. They are prima facie not the same thing
Hey, not so fast. It’s easy to say that glibly, but the lines get kinda blurry when you consider long-term hotel stays and short-term rentals. What’s really the key difference between the apartment and the hotel when you’re staying at the former for a week at a time or the latter for a 3-month stint?
I’m not saying the Venn diagram is a circle, mind you, just that there’s definitely some overlap.
What about condos? Is there something that prevents converting all apartment buildings and having owner-occupants instead of tenants?
As noted above, this isn’t completely true. You can also buy stocks for dividends.
I’m just speculating that someone else will want to buy
No, not entirely. Lots of companies pay dividends. Buy stock in those, and you’re speculating that they’ll continue to be profitable enough to pay dividends.
don’t have the time and skills
I’m not sure I can agree on this point, either. The time, maybe. The skill? If you’re skilled enough to use Lemmy, you’re skilled enough to set up a brokerage account and click “buy” on whichever companies meet your criteria. It’s not actually any more complicated than online banking IMO.
Four legs good,
Two legs better!
I doubt it, at least in the US. The rich have a lot of influence over how laws are made, and I don’t really see any appetite to pay a greater share.

I see the same thing, 404. Maybe a federation issue between lemmy.world and lemmit.online?
I see !bestofuserupdates@lemmy.world, !bestupdates@lemmy.world, and !best_of_post_updates@lemmy.world, but they haven’t seen any activity in quite a while.
